I just wanted to say I love you. I can’t fix anything (my husband would attest), and it worked! I am beyond thrilled. Haven’t read in 2 weeks! Thank you!

I don’t usually write comments but I could really kiss you right now. Those little things you mentioned up there did the trick. I had lost hope for my nook to ever work and I was so upset considering this device is very dear to me. A BIG FAT THANK YOU.

I had tried everything I could find on the Internet. Number 3 on the list above finally worked. Took a half hour of cleaning, but it worked ! Thank you so much.

Thank you so much for all the advise! This is my second nook. The first one did the very same thing so I took it to Barnes and noble and they didn’t know what was wrong with it or how to fix it so they sent me a new one. Recently I took my nook with me to the beach and sand must have got in the edges because it started acting up shortly after. I googled the problem and this was the first page that popped up. I was sceptical at first but tried it anyway. It worked!!!!Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

I just picked up a nook simple touch at my local thrift shop. It was locked. After trying lots of sites for info to unlock it, I found this. I removed the screen saver and cleaned the screen. It immediately unlocked and I could bring it back to the factory settings. Thank you! I am excited to use my new nook!

  • Brianna says:

Mine doesn’t work the screen is pale orange

  • Rosanne says:

I’ve had my Nook Simple Touch II for at least 3 years. When it froze on me, I was distraught as I am an avid reader and never go anyplace without my Nook. I went to B&N and they couldnt fix it so I bought a Nook Glowlight which drove me crazy; I couldnt get it registered at all. I found this website and cleaned the screen on my old Nook and it worked! The frustrating Glowlight is going back to the store. Thank you all for the amazingly easy fix. You saved me $99.

  • Mark says:

Thank you – one swipe with a business card under the edges and it works perfectly. And to think we were considering buying a new one…

I had already returned one device because the screen froze, thought I’d have to do the same again, but I cleaned it with screen wipes & slipped paper round the edges & it works a treat. Thanks very much for the advice!

  • Alec says:

    It works Thank you !

This advice seemed like nonsense, but cleaning around the edges really worked. Thanks so much for saving my daughter’s Nook!

  • Rishia says:

Thanks. Was getting frustrated with increasing unresponsiveness then was completely locked out, would not power down etc.
Hah-cleaning the screen and around the edges did the trick.
Thanks for this great info….I was on my way off to buy a replacement for my quite old nook.
    Thanks again.

  • Dani Gee says:

I have disliked my Nook since I got it on my library’s recommendation. I haven’t used it in a year, and unfortunately had to retrieve several books stored on it. It wouldn’t unlock. I tried everything mentioned, except the cleaning and finally did that. It did the trick in seconds. Should have listened to you all first! Thanks. What a stupid device. I’ve actually avoided shopping at Barnes & Noble because of problems with this gadget early on.

Nook is stuck at “Read Forever”
    “your nook is starting up”

Have tried cleaning under the edges which worked last time but no joy. It said it was 70% charged BUT it’s been saying that for a long long time

  • jezabel says:

Thanx a huge bunch for another guiltless Nook saved from being thrown away unjustfully 🙂

  • David Kedge says:

Brilliant, fixed what I thought was a broken Nook. Cheers.

My Nook Color stops at one specific page in the book I am currently trying to read and wont go any further. I can go to another book and it doesn’t do that. I don’t know what is causing this and I’m sure it is going to happen soon again and other problems as well. My Nook Color is about 5 years old and software version 1.4.3. It has started buffering very slowly and taking a lot of time to start any book I want to read. I cannot find anything in the User Guide to trouble shoot the problems I am having and when I go online I would have to pay upwards of $29 to get help.
