This is comment page 3 for Fixing an unresponsive Nook touch screen »
Wow. It’s a miracle. Was ready to trash my wife’s Nook when I found this page. Just a few seconds sliding a piece of paper around the edges and it came back to life. THANK YOU
I was skeptical to say the least, but all the other ‘hold the power button” etc etc fixes weren’t helpful. I used a stiff piece of thin plastic and worked it around the edges of the glass/frame, and on the third edge, the screen jumped to the ‘Your Nook’s battery charge is too low to power on.” screen. Much further than I had gotten so far! Hoping it’ll charge up now and work. Fingers crossed and thank you for this fix!
WOW! After going back and forth with the Barnes & Noble Nook CS team with trying different suggestions I came upon this comment and decided to try it.
WHAMMO it worked after sliding thick quality paper up underneath the edges of the plastic where it meets the screen. A few sand grains fell out and my screen has come back to life!
Thank You so much for your quick fix!!!
I admit to reading this fix and going ‘no way in this is going to work’.. and then.. ‘Son of B! it worked!’. This Nook is the perfect little reader for me so thanks so much for helping me fix it!
Here is one you will not be able to figure out. I have a brand new out of the box Nook and it is showing the “Fully charge before…. message. The unit is not responding to anything via the buttons or screen. I opened the case, ya, I know so much for the warranty. I removed the battery and the message is still on the screen, I unplugged the screen data cable and the message is still on the screen. I removed the screen completely from the board and the image is still on the screen ????? What have I got here??? It does not look like a demo, to many real parts other then the unfading screen.
I talked to nook help several times to no avail. They suggested I buy a new one since mine was 6 yrs. old. Followed the advice here and it worked. Why don’t the nook people and the store sales people know about this. I was amazed when it worked, since I was ready to buy another reader. Thank you. Margaret
Thanks!
The third hint helped.
Mine was acting erratically, but I took a camera lens brush and cleaned the grit out the corners and now it works fine.
Thank you so much! Hadn’t used the Nook in a couple of years because I thought it was never going to work again. Finally thought to Google it and this trick worked wonders. THANK YOU!!!
Wow, Great. Easy and it worked. Thanks!
Cheers mate, your tip worked a treat!
Excellent tip, work like a charm!
Thanks so much for the tip! Worked like a charm!
I was scared to death but went ahead and did as Lee said and it worked thank you so much Lee my nook is everything to me thank you thank you.
Thank you so much. My Nook is very old but it came back to life immediately with your simple trick. You are brilliant!
Absolutely brilliant. I was a trifle concerned that the screen was so grimy once I looked at the tissue I had used to clean it. Thanks very much indeed.
Thanks so much for the help!
Very good, thanks a lot for this info
“Glasses Wipes” (mine are “W5” brand from Lidl are brilliant for this (they are also brilliant for cleaning specs!), and as they are made to clean specs gently there is no chance of damaging the Nook screen..
Thank you so much man ! My ancient nook works again .
Worked like a charm! Thank you 🙂
Another happy customer – tried this and was able to fix an unresponsive Nook. Thanks!!
Great idea,
Love this dust cover! Just recently, I acquired a secondhand Orion telescope for a really great deal, and I wanted to get a dust cover for it. The telescope dust covers that I searched for were way too expensive, so I decided to just do a generic search for a dustcover and ran across this. Well, as you can see by the pics, once I added a couple of clips to snug it up, it worked out great, for a fraction of the price of what the telescope companies were wanting for their covers. I don’t know how weatherproof it would be, but for just a light drizzle, I would trust it. Anything more, and I would probably want to at least want to seal the seams. Anyway, it’s a nice little addition to my star “monitor”, aka: telescope.
Appreciate it!
Worked great. Have had this not unlocking problem before I suspect I did some cleaning on the screen but never associated it with being able to get it unlocked.
Thank you for this advice, worked a treat!
Worked for me too! So glad to come across this page, thank you!
You are my savior. My husband read about what to do from others but some of the ideas sounded rather extreme, taking out the battery, etc. I had 30 pages left on my book but almost went out to buy it just to be able to finish. Thank you for having this blog.
5 years after you wrote this guide: it still works!
I did not believe it would, but it sure did. Tkanks!
Absolutely brilliant! Who woulda thought? Perfect solution!
My Glowlight Nook screen became unresponsive, I turned it off and on, shook it, cried and found your solution. You are my HERO!!!
Thank you, it started working fine after your fix.
*bowing to your awesomeness*.
(From a girl who LOVES her Nook.)
cleaning with alcohol worked. Thank you!!!
Thanks for solution it worked great I appreciate it
Thank you ,Worked like a magic 🙂
Thank you soooooo much!!!! I was so frustrated with my nook just tonight an wanted to cry. It only took 15 sec to fix it. I was not able to read to my children tonight, but well double tomorrow. Thanks again!!!
It just happened to me with my BNRV350. Reading the above I blew hard on the screen to clear any dust, and it worked immediately. YEA!!!
Thank you so much!!!
Thanks! A quick shot of canned air around the perimeter and my Nook Simple Touch Glowlight is working again.
I don’t use it that often but I do keep it charged up.
I recently had three books from the library on hold and they were only available as ePubs so it was Nook to the rescue.
I have left my Nook unused for over five years. Found this article and even without the paper, just some careful blowing, you saved my device! Thank you.
Thank you, this worked for me. As others have said, I was considering throwing my nook away as it had had a good life, but your trick saved it – at least for a while.
Fantatsic!!
THANK YOU I was thinking of chucking it in the bin!
It worked first time – just scraping paper along edges of screen.
Perfect!
You’re a star! First day of a 2 week holiday in Florida Keys only to find screen was totally unresponsive and hard resets didn’t even work. Then your top tip paid dividends. At least I will now be able while away the hours tomorrow if Hurricane Matthew knocks out the power here.
